Released in 1981, this film features performances by many punk rock, New Wave, and post-punk acts including The Fleshtones, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, XTC, Devo, Oingo Boingo, Gary Numan, Klaus Nomi, Wall of Voodoo, Pere Ubu, Steel Pulse, Surf Punks, 999, UB40, Echo & the Bunnymen and The Police.

A 1973 documentary film by Mel Stuart featuring live performances by Isaac Hayes, Rufus Thomas, The Bar-Kays, Albert King and many more Stax recording artists, focused on the 1972 Wattstax music festival and was nominated for a Golden Globe award for Best Documentary Film in 1974.

A concert by the Canadian rock group, The Band, was filmed by director Martin Scorsese and made into a documentary of the same name, released in 1978, that was advertised as the end of an illustrious touring career. The concert saw The Band joined by more than a dozen special guests, including Paul Butterfield, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Ronnie Hawkins, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Wood, and Neil Young.
